Rules For 5 Card Stud Poker
Besides the general rule of casino games, some specific rules are also applicable in the game of five card stud. The first poker rule that you have to keep in mind in this regard is about the number of players that can participate in this game. The number of players may range from two to twenty. Following is a step-by-step guide on how this game is played.
Step 1
As per 5 card poker rules the game starts with the players placing a small bet in the bet. In gaming terminology, this bet is referred to as ante.
Step 2
Once the bets are placed, the dealer deals each player the hole card and one card, face down. As per the poker rule, the dealer has to start from the player on his/her left. If you are playing this game on Internet on a gaming site, there will be a virtual dealer who will be handling all these tasks. Since online casino rooms these days provide interactive platform to play games, the virtual dealer is capable of identifying virtually which player is sitting on his/her left.
Step 3
The dealer then deals a face up card to every player and puts the remaining pack face down on the table. This way, the cards become easily accessible to be used in the following part of the deal. Remember, the only card that the opposing players do not have any idea about is the hole card.
Step 4
As per the poker rule in the game of five card stud, the opening bet has to be made by the player that has the face up card with the highest ranking. The player sitting on the left of the player who bets first becomes the next bettor. The next bettor has a wide array of options to choose from. Depending upon the specific card combinations they have, they can choose to raise, re-raise, stay, or fold the pot.
Step 5
The dealer deals each player another face up card after the completion of the first round. In the second round of the game, the betting starts with the player who holds two face up cards with the highest ranking. This time, the first bettor has a couple of options to choose from. For example, depending upon the specific situation in the game, they can choose to bet, check, or drop out. But they must keep in mind the poker rule applicable to the various game actions. The next bettor again has an option to raise or re-raise, drop or fold, or play or stay.
Step 6
Once the second round is finished, the third round starts. As per the basic poker rules the dealer again deals every player a third face up card. This way, now the game has four cards - one hold card and three face up cards. In the third round also, the betting starts and ends in the same fashion as it does in the second round.
The fourth round is the final one, where everything remains the same except one specific poker rule - in this round, the bettor does not only have an option to either stay or play, but can also choose to call.
